Abstract
“Maqama” is a unique genre of Arabic literature and it is
also called “rhymed prose” in a highly finished style, famous writer
of the fourth Islamic century, Badi-uz-Zaman Hamdhani is known
for introducing “Maqama” in Arabic literature. After him, many
writers followed him and wrote everlasting “Maqamas”.
Abu Tahir Saraqusti is one of the famous columnists
(writers) of Spain. He named his “Maqamas” the “Maqmas of
Lazoomiyah”. Although he was inspired by Allama Hareeri in the
art of “Maqama” yet he named his “Maqamas” after Abu-ul-Ulaa
Almuarri’s “Book of Lazoomiyat”. “Maqamas” of Abu Tahir
Sarqusti earned the reatest fame among the ones written in Spain.
His “Maqamas” consist of many technical and artistic virtues,
along with rhetoric qualities. One of the important aspects of his
“Maqamas” is that he has benefitted a lot from Islamic history,
literature and particularly from The Holy Quran and the sayings of
Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), in his inscription, style, words
and meanings.
In this article, the influence of Islamic literature on
“Maqamas” of Abu Tahir Sarqusti is analyzed. In his “Maqamas”,
Qur’anic and Prophetic passages and inclusions are especially
highlighted along with Islamic terms and compositions used in
Qur’an and Sunnah. It has been explained in this article that in
which sense does Allama Sarqusti present, the mosque, which is
among the rituals of Islam.
In the end of article, light has been thrown on the way the
writer has stated the drawbacks and contradictions of society of
his time, and the treatment he has suggested for these drawbacks
and defects.
In the beginning of article, definition and interpretation of
maqama, beginning and development of “Maqama” writing in
Spain, introduction to Allama Sarqusti and his “Maqamas” has
been presented.
