Abstract
I am a Pakistani graduate.I started my medical career at a Basic Health Unit in a small village in Pakistan.Just before completing surgical training in the United Kingdom UK, I changed over to general practice about 20 year ago. Currently I wear various hats which hopefully gives me a wide perspective on the topic at hand. I am a senior partner at my practice, which currently employs over 30 people. I am also a director of Northwest Leicester GP federation which represents 15 GP practices in the area.I am a GP trainer for the East Midlands Deaneryand I teach medical students from Leicester University, NottinghamUniversity and recently acquired students from University College London. The main aim of this article is to describe how primary care works in the UK, draw upon my experience in Pakistan, try to compare itwith other healthcare systems and hopefully work up some useful suggestions.
