Elements of Feminism and Ecofeminism in Kishwar Naheed's Poetry
Abstract
Feminism is the name of a movement that not only calls for women's rights but also reacts to the exploitation of women. Like other global movements in the world, Feminism originated in the West in the early eighteenth century. Very soon this movement gained global popularity and its various branches came into being. Writers and poets around the world also welcomed the movement. The voice of this movement in the colonial period began to be heard in the subcontinent as well. Feminist ideology has been promoted by poets and writers like Maulana Hali and Allama Rashid al-Khari. Women's morale was raised and they too came out on the field to protect their rights. Women tried to change exploitative attitudes through poetry and fiction, and played a vital role to promote feminist thinking. Kishwar Naheed is one such name in Urdu literature who used poetry and prose to develop feminist ideology. The main purpose of this article is to highlight the theoretical view of feminism and ecofeminism in Kishwar Naheed's writings.
