Islām is a complete code of life. The following declaration was announced
by the beloved the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم during his last sermon of pilgrimage, „‟This
day I have perfected your religion for you, completed my favours on you
and has chosen for you Islam as your religion.„‟ (Al Qur‟ān, 5:3)
The jurists of Islamic Law have laid down broad principles regarding
“Istiḥsān and „Usōl e Istiḥsān.” This article analyses the legal status of
Istiḥsān and „Usōl e Istiḥsān in the perspective of Qur‟ānic verses and their
interpretations by the eminent Commentators (mufassirīn) along with their
arguments. The article deals with the significance of the above said aspect
in Islamic Jurisprudence along with enough details of its various aspects. A
conclusion is also presented at the end of the research paper.
