Mullah Abdul Salam Ashezai is one of the eminent personalities of Balochistan. During the British rule over the subcontinent, he strongly opposed the civilization and culture of the West, propagated through the missionaries. Ignorance was at full swing in the area. Hence Muslims particularly Pashtoons of the region were unaware of the intrigues of the Britishers. As a religious scholar, strongly condemned their policies through his poetry. Being a poet of Pashto language, he rigorously criticized the un-Islamic rituals that had caught roots in the society. He continued his struggle against the then government and evil practices of his time. He was a distinguished scholar and had written books of assorted themes which also include a religious book "Talab-e-Mazhab". This book critically analyzes the life and evil customs of the Pashtoon society. "Susan-e-Chaman" is another book of Mullah Abdul Salam discussing the national poetry. He adores his nation and homeland. Susan-e-Chaman is such a book which persuaded Pashtoons, to enrich their lives with national enthusiasm. That is why he was the only scholar and poet of Balochistan, whose books were confiscated and set on fire by the British government. He had also written "Zardana Dur". He died in 1974.
