Online Arabic Language Proficiency Tests for Non-Native Speakers (Al- ARABIYYA-TEST as a Case Study)

Abstract
With fast advancement in the areas of applied linguistics and information technology, some online Arabic language proficiency testing systems have been introduced. The available systems are produced either by individual scholars, private institutes or universities. This article sets out to introduce and review these systems in the light of the most famous language proficiency parameters such as Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). The article focuses on Al-ARABIYYA TEST which is prepared by the Institute of Oriental Studies, Leipzig University, Germany. The system encompasses testing of all the four skills of Arabic language. The author’s conclusions take into account the need, structure, effectiveness, administration and creditability of such testing systems especially the Al-ARABIYYA TEST.
