Abstract
The Sufism is based on two major concepts: the love of
Allah and equality among mankind without any distinction of race,
creed, territory and sect. This paper deals with the role of Sufism
in social security and universal peace. The etymology of the term
“sufi” and “tasawwuf” has been explained in the start of this paper
in the light of the opinions of sufi pioneers. The concept of peace
and security and its importance for human race in the light of Holy
Quran and Sunnah has also been briefly described. The
prominent Sufi personalities in every era have been staunch
advocates of peace, harmony, tolerance and love of humanity.
The doctrine of Sufism “an all-embracing love of everything and
respect for everyone” is intended to bring about an all-enveloping
harmony in which every single body - animate and inanimate - is
able to live and interact together for the long term benefit of all.
There is no place for inequality or greed in the world of Sufism and certainly no place for warfare. The real Sufi principles of peaceful
coexistence (originated from the teachings of Holy Quran and life
of Holy Prophet) can wield the various social sections of human
race having different economic and political benefits, in single
community. The miserable problems of our existing world, due to
lust of more wealth, more power and surmounting over others, are
the direct result of human greed. And these problems can be
tackled by the sharing and caring qualities of Sufism, if and when
they are correctly promoted and practiced.
