Abstract
The tradtition of "Urdu Tadveen e Matn" has its roots in the rich and
flourishing history of Tadveen in Arabic and Persian. Particularly it drives its
principals and rules from the Tadveen of Quran and Hadees. Then it got its founding
from English sources also. Urdu Tadveen e Matn Started from the beginning of 20th
Century. Hafiz Mehmood Shirani was its first proponent. Then it spread throughout
India to different centres of learning.
Dr. Azmat Rubab in her dissertation points out such 12 centers of Tadveen e
Matn throughout the length and breadth of India and Pakistan. Prominent among these
are Deccan, Lahore, Delhi, Karachi, and Raam Pur etc. where learned scholars carried
out Tadveen of important manuscripts and texts. She has reviewed all the major works
edited at these centers and discussed their prominent trades and characteristics. It is
indeed a classical work which covers the whole traditions of Urdu Tadveen e Matn in
Prose and Poetry form beginning to the present day.It is a great addition to Urdu
research tradition and records all the attempts to preserve the texts of Urdu Literature.
