Abstract
Objective: To determine the outcome of pediatric patients with Methicillin Resistant Staph Aureus (MRSA) osteomyelitis which were treated inappropriately before presenting to us. Methodology: We analyzed five cases of MRSA osteomyelitis, which presented to our clinic between of 2013-2015. The mean age was 5.8 years and they were inappropriately treated before presentation to our center. Results: Multiple surgical drainage procedures were done in all cases. Vancomycin was used in all five patients, in addition to TMP–SMX or rifampicin. Both Erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein were monitored to see response to therapy. All recovered according to a clinical, laboratory and radiological criteria. Conclusion: MRSA osteomyelitis in pediatric age group can be treated effectively with appropriate surgical and medical treatment based on established guidelines.
