Abstract
The article is related with the ideological orientation and political performance of Hayat Muhammad Khan Sherpao. He is regarded as one of the most vocal leaders. Who espoused a leftist and socialist approach in political scenario. From his school days and during his stay in Islamia College, Peshawar he emerged as a young dynamic political activist. He started his political career from the platform of Pakistan Muslim League which was rather a weak political organization in the former NWFP (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa). The article evaluates his performance as a student leader, to understand the dynamics of his early political direction. From a student activist he joined the bandwagon of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto politics. He was one of the founding fathers of Pakistan Peoples Party which was established in 1967. The attempt is to study his political position and successes that how he grabbed the upper echelon in the Pakistan Peoples Party. Due to his services the PPP made rapid headway among the Pakhtuns of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Moreover, his role as governor of NWFP and federal minister under Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto would be discussed in detail to comprehend his political ideas and passion for the uplift of the masses
