Abstract
Elections are the essence for strengthening the modern representative democracy. It represents the popular will and creates an interconnected relation between the public and government. It is an effective instrument for transferring power from one government to another peacefully. Periodical elections lead to install a stable democracy in a country. There are many forms and manifestations of elections. Each form is applicable in a particular political set up or country. In order to comprehend full idea about elections, it is necessary to know about its nature, origin and its typologies. The present paper is one such attempt in this connection.
