Abstract
The investigations to evaluate mulches for moisture conservation in maize were carried out at University of Arid Agriculture, Rawalpindi during spring 1996. The experiment comprised of seven treatments including wheat, barley, oats and triticale straw mulch, hand weeding, weedy check and chemical control. At all the growth stages, mulching treatments proved to be a better option for moisture conservation. Chemical control method also proved equally good as mulching treatments because of better weed control hence lesser moisture loss.
