Abstract
Grammar, the systematic study of language and a particular analysis of its structure,
is always considered as a key to learn any language. How much it can help an
individual learner and whether it is the only tool In this concern or sorne social
conditions also matter Is a different debate. Anyl,ow, here I move on to present an
introducbon and analysis of one of the very first written works about Urdu grammar
and composition. Risala Qawaeð-e-Urdu in three parts; written by Mrza Nisar Ah
Baig & Munshi Faizullah Khan in 1860-61, was the first syllabus book for the students
of Urdu studying at different levels/classes in the schools/colleges of North & West
provinces of British-India. All the three parts of Risala Qawaed.e-Urdu are on the
subject of Morphobgy and Syiitax of Urdu Language. This Article also discusses the
tradition/trend of Urdu grammar writrig and compdabon in British-India before 1857,
shortly.
