Abstract
The age in which Muhammad Hassan Askari began his writing career was
marked a literary milieu born of Western intellectual, cultural and critical ideas.
In such a situation, he laid emphasis on the creation of such literature which
could reflect and embody a clearly distinct Eastern spirit. During the Pakistan
movement and afterwards, he highlighted the need for a literature which, along
with representing the collective longings of the Muslims of the Subcontinent,
would be in tandem with the collective aspirations of Pakistani nation. To him,
literature should not only impregnated with aesthetic values but also reflect
social experimentations and transnational conditions. The criticism he produced
is a testament to his extraordinary mindfulness and deep awareness.
In this paper, it has been discussed as to how the issues Askari wrote about are
meaningful and relevant not just to his age but also to our times. Most of such
issues are extremely pertinent to contemporary conditions and, in his writings,
one can discern an effectively spelled out futuristic vision
