Abstract
Muhammad Hassan Askari began his writing career as a short story writer. Then
he began writing criticism. He was against Progressive Writers Movement since
the very beginning. He was in favor of the significance of life and ideology in
literature. However, he was not in favor of literature being dominated by
ideologies. Due to this, Askari was declared as an escapist by the progressive
writers. The truth, I argue, is that Askari was an advocate of the concept of
inseparable relation between art and life. Throughout his life, he has been
writing on the issues of modern life: culture, politics, imperialism, etc. In this
paper I have focused on Askari's letters and various other works and showed that
although he was in favour of a peculiar kind of the theory of art for art sake, but
he was advocate of inseparable relation of life was literature.
