Abstract
This paper reveals the story of Hali when he was in Lahore for a
couple of years during the second half of the 19th century. In this period
Lahore emerged as the cultural and literary hub of India. Hali was deeply
inspired by the new wave of western literature. This creative impact
brought a revolutionary change in his literary concepts. It was Lahore
where he formulated his views about the new in his poetry and later on he
constructed the new theory of criticism. Lahore was the main spring of all
these changes.
