Abstract
Urdu Criticism takes its proper start from "Muqadma-e-Shairo Shairy"
by Altaf Hussain Hali. This book was published in 1893. It was basically the
preface of Hali's Diwan. Hali wrote it for the justification of his new
concept of poetry. He wanted to reform the taste of poetry during his
age. "Muqadama-e-Shairo Shairy was appreciated greatly as well as it
faced the storm of criticism too.
This article gives an overview of criticism on Hali's "Muqadama".
It indicates the two waves of criticism (i) In favour of Hali (ii)
Disfavour of Hali. In this article critics opinions have been analysed
and judged with the comparison of Hali's statements. It also
highlights the importance of "Muqadama".
