Abu bakar R.A was the first caliph of
Muslims after Holy Prophet Muhammad. In the reign
of Abu bakar the procedure of ijtihad was carried
out exactly the same manner as that during the
lifetime of Holy Prophet Muhammad .In order to
solve a new problem, first Quran was consulted, then
suunah (practices of Muhammad, then the consensus
of Sahabah. Abu bakara would take guidance from
Quran and Sunnah, on occasions where he would
think that the particular problem has no prominent
solution given in Quran and sunnah, he would try to
take a logical and reasonable decision on the basis
of rules and principles of Quran and Sunnah.
Abu bakar used his scholarly consensus to
escape Muslim Ummah from grave problems on
many occasions. Among them some are war matters,
tactics of governance, Saqifa bane saida, the
incidence of Fidak, compilation of Quran ,the
apostates and those who refuse to give zakat. He put
and advanced Muslims on the right path by
benefiting from the jurists of Islamic Jurisprudence.
He fulfilled his duties as first caliph of Islam.
