Finance is the life blood of business and banks are the backbone of the modern economy. From a wealthy businessman to a peasant, every Muslim has different interactions with banks. It is necessary to examine the modern banking in the light of Shariah to differentiate the Halal and Haram interactions. This article elaborates and critically examines some burning aspects of the modern banking system. Some important issues which have been discussed in this article are Shariah rulings about different Kinds of bank accounts , leasing systems in modern banking, financing a business through banks, currency exchange, interest receiving on trade and ordinary loans , Zakat deduction through banks , Musharaka, Mudaraba and Qarz e Hasna schemes launched by the banks , different kinds of service charges , leases , hire purchase, and working in a bank as an employee. All these points have been discussed keeping in view the Quran, Sunnah and views of prominent scholars.
