With the new scientific inventions, innovative methods and sources have come to the fore in the field of investigation. A question arises thus; whether Islamic shariah admits of the modern trends of investigation or Islamic principles of investigation has nothing to do with modern science? In modern investigative trends, circumstantial and material evidence have earned enormous emphasis; and this type of evidence is of great value under Islamic Shariah too. Circumstantialـcumـmaterial evidence corroborates the ocular evidence, however a court of law may, sometimes, decide relying solely upon the circumstantialـcumـmaterial evidence in case of nonـavailability of ocular account. Hence, circumstantial evidence is admissible under Shariah for the proof of crime or a claim. In this topic medical evidence, as a modern source of investigation, has been tested on the touchstone of Islam.
