A Study of Sajjad Zaheer’s Prose Poem
Abstract
Poem (Nazam) is an important genre of Urdu literature and it
is diverse in forms as Urdu literature itself. Many poets have
created rich poetry to the best of their capabilities in the
different forms of Urdu Nazam. Sajjad Zaheer stands head and
shoulder among such poets. He created great poems in varied
forms of "Nasri Nazam" some of them are for example in run
on lines, others are in stanza form. The distinction of Sajjad
Zaheer lies in his creating of harmony and rhythm, sometimes
with repetition of words, sometimes with entire lines. He
introduced rhyme and rhythm pattern which further enhance
the musical effect and harmony of "Nasri Nazm. He wrote
short and long Nasri poems but he touches poetic perfection in
his poems. In this article, the authors have a thorough view of
Sajjad Zaheer's "Nasri Nazm" as far as the form of the nazm is
concerned. While giving relevant examples from his poetry.
