Abstract
In the aftermath of 9/11 terrorists' attacks on the World Trade Centre, the US and coalition forces launched military operations against al-Qaeda and Taliban in Afghanistan. The Musharraf's regime was pressured and compelled by Bush administration and thus dragged Pakistan into encounter-terror strategy. In the war against terror, Pakistan provided the US and coalition forces logistic and intelligence support; over flights rights, transit route and a number of military bases. It conducted various military operations in the Af-Pak border region against terrorists to dismantle their sanctuary and safe haven. Besides killing of many, it arrested a number of top leadership of al-Qaeda and handed them over to the US for interrogation. Anti-terrorism laws, special counter-terrorism courts were established by Pakistan and banned several suspected organizations and freezed their accounts. An objective assessment of Pakistan's contribution in combating terrorism singularly places Pakistan right on the top of the list. Pakistan's cooperation in the war against terrorism was rewarded by the US Government and it further strengthened ties with Islamabad, waived military and economic sanctions, and extended its cooperation in economic as well as security concerns
