Abstract
Two important fields i.e. Pashto journalism and literature have been discussed in the article with special reference to the foundation of "Jaras" magazine in Karachi. The first organization with regard to Pashto literary contribution was established in Qandahar (Afghanistan). However, in the Indian subcontinent, a semi-religio and literary monthly magazine "Islam" was started in 1854. Afterwards, many other magazines like Anjuman, Payam-i-Haq, Sarhad, Afghan, Pakhtun, Azad Pakhtun, Rahbar and many more were started published in Pashto language. The article traces the origin of "Jaras" magazine from Karachi and it provides a detailed account of all the issues, i.e contents and themes. The writers who contributed their articles are also discussed with biographical notes. Besides, the people who remained associated with the editorial board of "Jaras" are given due importance in the article
