Abstract
The international readers get a glimpse of The famous nostalgic poet
of Urdu literature, Nasir Qazmi,'s creative work through the English
translations of Waqas Ahmad Khawaja, K.c Kanda and Basir Sultan Qasmi
and Dav Jani Chitterji's remarkable efforts. Due to its specific form, Ghazal
has always proved to be a great challenge for the translators. However
keeping in view the penetrating power of Nasir's poetry, the translators
turned to him and transferred many of his pieces into English. In his first
collection of Urdu translated poetry, waqas Khawaja just translated the gist
of NaSir's verses, however, in his later work in collaboration with another
reknowned Urdu poet, Iftikhar Arif, he tried to come up with somewhat
poetic translation. The same is the case with Dav jani Chitterji. Whereas, k.c
kanda has tried to maintain the poetic rhythm of Urdu verses into English,
though in this effort, more often than not, his translation go beyond the ST
in meaning and word arrangement. The translations prove that Nasir's
diction, despite being simple appearantly, is really an uphill task to
translate.
