Abstract
"Molana Altaf Husain Hali is a prominent figure of Urdu prose in
colonial era. His book "Hayat-e-Sadi" is commonly considered as biography
but infact it's a book of applied criticism because Hali described
biographical aspects very shortly and most part of this book is consist of
applied criticism on poetry and prose of Sadi. This book was written before
"Muqadima-e-Sher-o-Shairy" and "Yadgar-e-Ghalib". Molana Hali has
discussed many critical points in "Hayat-e-Sadi" that has been made a base
for new ideologies which he presented in "Muqadima-e-Sher-o-Shairy".
There is also its historical importance that it is starting a point of applied
criticism in Urdu literature."
