This study is to investigate the permissibility and limitation of corporal punishment given to the children in the educational institutions all over the country. The researcher has selected the Quranic Verses [Words of Allah], Hadiths [sayings of the Holy Prophet] and the Islamic Fiqh [Islamic Jurisprudence] to elaborate the right and balanced path of educating a child. Corporal punishment is considered as an effective disciplinary measure which is used to shape a child’s behavior. In this regard, Islamic viewpoint is very clear as it has a balanced approach. The basic thing is to educate a child. Observing the whole life of the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w)he had never ever beaten his students or sub ordinates as Hazrat Anas (R.A) narrated [Sahih Bukhari]. On the other hand, he allows a father to beat his child if he neglects Salah (prayer) after he reaches ten years of age (Abu Dawood). Beating a child is not a principle but a method which is used on the basis of need. The researcher concludes that Shariah (Islamic Legislation) allows imposition of light physical punishment as a last and final method to educate a student. But it is permissible when all the other means of upbringing have been used previously and have no impact on him such as kindness, discussion, motivation, warning, advice and direction.
