Abstract
In this research paper, the advent of progressivism in Urdu literature has been
analyzed with reference to its sociopolitical milieu. The impacts of Ali Garh
Movement and Allama Iqbal are also discussed. The famous collection of short
stories, "Angarey", which marked a turning point in the history of progressive
Urdu literature, has been critically considered. The role of Marxism,
commitment, form, content and motifs have been studied to understand the
significance of this multidimensional movement.
