Begum Shahnawaz was one of those leading individual
personalities who contributed a great deal towards the betterment
of their society. The importance of her role was linked to the part
she played as an emancipator of Muslim women from their long
suppression as well as being most distinguished female leader
during the course of Pakistan Movement. The Begum belonged
to a well known Punjabi Arain family probably migrated to
Lahore in the fifteenth century and was the daughter of Mian
Muhammad Shafi, one of the founders of the All-India Muslim
League as well as an elder statesman of the British Indian
Empire
